| CANDIDA General condition information:
We all carry the Candida albicans parasite in our bodies and generally it is kept under control. However, it can flare up and become destructive if it is activated by poor dietary management, the use of steroids, antibiotics or the contraceptive pill. Symptoms may include a bloated and distended abdomen, vaginal and oral thrush, cystitis, rashes, fungal infections of the skin, scalp and nails, constipation or diarrhoea, flatulence, irritability, headaches depression, difficulty in concentrating, poor memory, as well as drowsiness and joint/muscle pain. Allergic tendencies tend to be triggered off within the body and symptoms may be aggravated by tobacco smoke, perfumes, detergents, petrol fumes, etc. Candida albicans should be tackled on a number of fronts. Sufferers will need to: - repair the intestinal tissue - re-establish a better intestinal bacterial flora - strengthen the immune system - eliminate the fungus by anti-fungal agents. Candida sufferers will be able to achieve the above by adhering to an anti-candida diet, supported by the use of vitamin and mineral supplements, along with herbal remedies. Dietary advice Diet is of paramount importance and some can find an
anti-candida diet very restrictive. However, it is essential that the
candida is ‘starved’ of foods that help to feed it. Foods
that should be avoided include all fermented products, alcohol, cheese,
smoked fish and meats, pork, nicotine, refined white flour and refined
white sugar. In addition, fresh vegetables and fruit should be eliminated
until the candida is under control.
Live yoghurt containing acidophilus bacillus should be eaten. Other acceptable foods include cottage cheese, salad, tofu, garlic, and olive oil. Remedies Please remember that if you are taking any prescribed medication or have a medical problem, you should consult your own medical practitioner before starting any new course of treatment.
