CIRCULATORY PROBLEMS

General condition information:

Good circulation is necessary and circulatory problems will occur if the normal circulation of the blood is interfered with or hindered in some way. All kinds of problems can occur when adverse influences are allowed the chance to gain strength. These include aggregation of the red blood cells, reduced oxygen pick-up, as well as increased blood viscosity, inability of the capillaries to receive the red blood cells, and possibly oedema, arteriosclerosis and quite a few more.

During a period of twenty-four hours, eleven tons of blood are pumped through the body. Any small irregularity has an effect on the smooth circulation of the blood. Eg. due to constriction of the blood vessels the blood supply to an organ or tissue cannot pass unhindered and Raynaud's disease may manifest itself in the fingers or toes when these outer extremities turn white and numb. Other indicators of an impaired circulatory system may be chilblains, poor memory, varicose veins, lymphoedema.

Dietary advice

Cut down on your salt and sugar content.

Exercise

Swimming, walking and cycling are ideal exercises for improving the circulation.

An excellent form of hydrotherapy is the "Cold Dip" exercise.

This exercise should be done first thing in the morning on rising and each night on retiring. At the side of the bed place a basin of cold water and have a towel ready. On waking up in the morning, place both feet into the water. Having counted to ten, remove your feet from the basin and place them on the towel to damp dry. Exercise your toes as if trying to pick up a marble. Do this 10-30 times. At night before retiring, follow the same procedure as suggested for the morning. You will find that your feet are glowing and warm as toast when you go to bed. This exercise must be done for a minimum of 60 days for maximum benefit.
