COMMON COLD

General condition information:

A common cold is often underestimated, yet it should never be neglected. It has lead to inflammation and infection in the upper respiratory tracts and is often accompanied by nasal congestion.

There are many causes of a cold and too often the case that it is the result of a virus. The nose, mouth and throat may become infected and inflamed, causing swelling, and sometimes such a viral infection leads to a secondary infection resulting in nasal discomfort, ranging from a watery to a thick yellow –greenish mucous discharge. In such cases symptoms are a runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, watery eyes and a headache.

In many cases the effects tend to be acute and can cause considerable discomfort, albeit for a relatively short period only.

Dietary advice

Try keeping your diet very light when you have a cold. One rarely feels like eating a heavy meal when feeling congested. Ensure that you drink plenty of fluids, especially fruit juices that are rich in vitamin C. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and at such times, I would also recommend taking a vitamin C supplement. Wholefood products, including brown rice, a daily salad, cress, onions and garlic should be eaten. Remember to eat slowly and limit sugar and salt as much as possible.

Remedies
