| GUM DISEASE General condition information:
A healthy wholesome diet will supply sufficient calcium, fluoride, and other important elements to keep the gums, dentine and enamel in perfect condition. Our faulty nutrition impairs healthy resistance, not only in the teeth, but also in the bones and tissues, indeed the entire organism. We no longer possess natural resistance to tooth decay and therefore have to assist nature mechanically in removing all food particles, plaque and undesirable bacteria from the surface and crevices of our teeth and gums. Unfortunately, gum disease is a very common condition. In chronic cases not only are the gums inflamed, but the gums may become detached from the tooth surface and culminate in the teeth becoming loose and falling out. Dietary advice To ensure healthy teeth and gums, a natural diet should be adopted. All refined foods should be avoided, especially white flour and white sugar. Chewing food thoroughly and slowly will ensure that the jaw is exercised properly, and that the teeth are cleaned at the same time. Ideal foods would be wholewheat bread, especially if it contains rye as this is rich in fluoride. Remedies Please remember that if you are taking any prescribed medication or have a medical problem, you should consult your own medical practitioner before starting any new course of treatment.
