Cruelty free cleansers for every skin type

Gill @JdeV Auchterarder store

Cleansing is a crucial part of any skincare routine – it removes dirt, impurities, excess oil and makeup, leaving your skin clean and fresh. There can be a lot of research that goes into choosing the right product – gel or cream? Wash off or wipe off? For sensitive skin or oily skin?

This only gets more confusing when looking for a cruelty free product! To save you hours of research, today I’m discussing my favourite cruelty free cleansers for all skin types.

The all-rounders

These cleansers are perfect for normal skin types, but they’re gentle enough to use on problem skin too, whether it’s sensitive skin or acne-prone skin. This is because these products are all natural, making them much gentler than chemical versions.

Sukin Cream Cleanser

This fantastic all-round cleanser is a fantastic choice for people looking for a great product on a lower budget. It’s packed full of lovely natural ingredients like rose hip oil, avocado oil, aloe vera and nettle. Your skin will feel super clean without feeling dry or tight.

It contains lots of nourishing ingredients like calendula, almond seed meal, witch hazel and sweet almond oil to support your skin’s health.

Sensitive or problem skin

These cleansers are best suited for those of you with more delicate skin – whether it’s dry, sensitive or acne-prone. These cleansers are made from only the most soothing, delicate ingredients to prevent any unpleasant reactions.

Sukin Sensitive Cleansing Lotion

With ultra-cooling and soothing cucumber and aloe vera, this cleanser is gentle enough to use during a flare-up when skin can be at its most painful or sensitive. It helps to calm skin as well as nourishing and cleansing it with rose hip, jojoba oil and avocado oil. This sits at the lower end of our budget, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less effective!

Green People Scent Free Cleanser

At the higher end of our price range is Green People’s fantastic scent-free cleanser. It’s really gentle but still effective – it can even remove waterproof mascara! It’s packed full of nourishing ingredients like sunflower oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera and calendula to soothe and cleanse the skin.

Since this cleanser is free from any added fragrance, it is a good choice for people with sensitive skin.

 Dry skin

Cleansers for dry skin should be effective at removing oil and dirt, without stripping the skin of moisture. Most natural cleansers will do this, but I’ve found a couple that will actually help to restore moisture as well. These choices are also great during the winter, when the cold, harsh weather is more likely to dry out your skin.

Avalon Organic Vitamin C Renewal Hydrating Cleansing Milk

This wonderfully refreshing cleanser is super hydrating with a number of nourishing oils including sunflower seed oil, bergamot oil, linseed oil and shea butter. It’s packed full of antioxidants and vitaminc C to keep your skin healthy and protect against environmental factors. It will leave your skin feeling both clean and hydrated.

Price: 250ml £7.29

Kinvara Skincare Absolute Cleansing Face Oil

As this cleanser is an oil rather than a cream or gel, many of our customers prefer to use this on dry skin. It helps to gently clean away dirt and makeup without stripping your skin’s precious natural oils. With a blend of sunflower seed oil, sesame seed oil, rosemary leaf extract and orange peel oil, this cleanser is nourishing and luxurious. Pair with a hot cloth for a DIY home facial.

Price: 100ml £16.95

Oily skin

Oily skin can be a tricky one to cope with – too much oil can feel unpleasant on the skin and trigger outbreaks of spots or acne. However, stripping too much oil can cause dry skin or irritation, or can even trigger the skin to over-produce oil, making the problem even worse!

Sukin Oil Balancing Purifying Gel Cleanser

The bamboo charcoal in this cleanser helps to absorb oil and toxins and gently remove them from the face, without stripping the skin of its natural protection. It nourishes with chamomile, rooibos and willowherb, leaving your skin clean and fresh. Your skin will be left feeling oil free but still hydrated and soft.

Price: 125ml £9.99
