Can you leave argan oil in your hair overnight?

Argan oil is ground from seeds produced by the argan tree. This is a plant native to Morocco with the oil traditionally used here for cooking, skin care and hair care. The benefits of argan oil are now widely known though, with everything from shampoos to face creams boasting about its qualities. However, when it comes to hair care, how exactly should argan oil be applied? That’s the topic of this blog.

Benefits of leaving argan oil in your hair overnight

Leaving the oil in your hair overnight gives your hair time to soak up its valuable nutrients, of which there are many. Vitamin E and omega 6 are prominent for example, meaning the oil is ideal for those who suffer from a dry scalp or dandruff. After all, these help to prevent dryness and reduce skin inflammation.

For those with curly or even frizzy hair types, when left in overnight argan oil can help to make this more manageable. That’s not all though, the list of benefits of using argan oil on your hair goes on further!

It acts as a barrier against heat for example, meaning the likes of straighteners and hair dryers are less likely to cause damage. Also, as we experience extreme changes in weather between summer and winter, this can affect the health and appearance of the hair. So, by leaving a little argan oil in overnight, you could help to counteract these damaging effects.

For your hair to reap these many benefits, it’s important you apply argan oil correctly and so below I’ve written a step-by-step guide on how to go about that.

How to use argan oil

Before you head to bed, argan oil can be applied to either wet or dry hair. If you choose to apply it to dry hair, simply put a few drops of oil on your hands and massage it into your hair. You only need a very small amount here as you don’t want to end up making your hair greasy. Once the oil is distributed throughout your hair wrap it in a towel or hair net to prevent it from soaking through to your pillow as you sleep. Also, with a cover around it the oil is more easily absorbed by your hair too.

The process of applying argan oil to wet hair is the same as what I’ve described above only before you put the oil in be sure to towel-dry your hair first. Plus remember, you don’t need to apply argan oil to your hair every night and instead 2-3 times a week should be enough.

Choosing a product

Argan oil is fast becoming a sought after hair care product and that means there are a lot of products out there that have it as an ingredient. However, when choosing a product with argan oil, pure and natural is best and that’s why I’d recommend John Master’s 100% Argan Oil. This is made using 100% organically certified argan oil and so it is packed with the all-important omega 6 and vitamin E.
